Quality Shoe Repair Gone Crap

Dear Quality Shoe Repair in Frederick, Maryland,

I brought in my black, winter boots about a few years ago and was impressed with your knowledge and service. The sole had started to come loose at the toe box and I honestly didn't know if they could be fixed. But I wanted to find out. My boots, though not made of seal skin and reindeer fur for Arctic trekking, possess some redeemable qualities.

Namely, they're resoleable! Most footwear is made to trash when they break down, so I was surprised and grateful my boots were salvageable. You Quality Shoe Repair peeps explained the ins and outs of how you'd repair them and you did a great job. My boots were back in business!

Good service attracts customers. I recommended Quality Shoe Repair to my step-mom who needs lifts built into all her shoes. She also had a good experience.

When I decided to get my lazy butt back into hiking this week, I discovered that my hiking boots needed repair. I brought them in to your store, and showed you how the sole was peeling off. You explained that it was dry rot, and that you could fix it. Again, a display of expertise! I was stoked.

So when I came to pick them up, I was shocked to see this black smudge along the sides of my boots. It looked like the repairman haphazardly sloped on the shoe goo. I didn't know what to say. I mean, they are hiking boots, after all. They're mean to get dirty. Still, something didn't feel right. I mean, shoe goo was all over my boots.

I'm practicing speaking up for myself, (I seriously hate doing this), so I did. And was able to eke out: Umm, excuse me . . . what is this black stuff? And I pointed.

You glanced at the black stuff and threw your hands in the air. What can I do, it was already like that, you said. I was aghast. You flat out dismissed my concern. I don't think you pay such close attention to detail even to notice if it was already like that.

It saddens me, but I think I have to find a new shoe repair guru. Thanks for the good times. Good luck.

Sincerely,

Britta Kallevang, former customer
