Anti-Racist?

Hardly. In fact, I think this mural sends an egregious, racist message painted by a White person to entertain a White audience.

This young man is holding a sign to remind the viewer that he's human, too. That's nice. Because you probably almost mistook him for a green space alien, right? Of course he's human! And I bet even he knows that he's human. Gasp!

Who does and doesn't have an "I'm human" ID card isn't the debate. It's about being Black in a White-privileged society. It's about being White and ignorant to one's privilege. Black suffering at the hands of White people, White police, every White body.

Ugh... yeah, I feel sickened just looking at this image. And yet, I'm a White, non-racist individual with no Black friends. No Black acquaintances, even. Shame on me. The only excuse I have is that in my daily life, I never have the opportunity to interact with a Black person. My world is as white as a . . . Kleenex? Sorry, I had no metaphor in mind.

Anyway, that excuse is non valid. I need to get off of my ass.
